As the leaves begin to change colors, we all begin to think of the next season to come - autumn!  The colors are beautiful but I always feel sad at this time of the year. People wonder why?  Because autumn leads to brrrrrrrrrr - winter, cold, snow, yuck, yuck, and yuck weather.  I so thoroughly dislike winter. 

There are only a very few things good about winter. Apple trees need winter to grown crisp apples the next autumn. Maple trees need winter to make sap good enough to make maple syrup in the early spring. Do you know why it is so expensive?  It is a labor intensive task to make the syrup!  It takes 40 gallons of sap that must be boiled down to make one gallon of maple syrup. Somebody has to stir that sap as it boils down.  Kids like to play in the snow.  I like watching the grandkids doing that from the inside of my warm house.  But there is not much else that is good about winter.
